It's finally May, which only means one thing for meeting and event planners: the GDPR compliance deadline is nigh! That's right; after months and months of talking about it, Friday, May 25 is when everyone needs to be following the rules laid out in the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, which aims to give increased control to its citizens over how their personal data is collected, processed and used.
And that's just putting it simply! GDPR is comprehensive, sometimes confusing, but still very important to comply with, not only for your sake (the fine is pretty hefty: 4% of your annual global turnover or €20 Million—whichever is greater!), but for your clients and attendees' privacy as well.
To ease your mind over these last few weeks, check out these free GDPR resources our team has developed specifically for meeting and event planners:
Your Free Compliance Guide
First and foremost, our most comprehensive resource is our ebook, GDPR for Meetings & Events: What your event tech provider can do for you.
That should be your first stop as it goes over the basics of GDPR and how it directly affects our industry (whereas other online resources may not). There's also a lot of information about how etouches as a company has taken steps to ensure compliance for its clients.
We also have two webinars that focus on GDPR that you can watch on-demand in the coming weeks.
Join us as we walk you through some of the fundamentals that all event planners should know about GDPR and some steps you can take to make sure you are ready on midnight May 25!
Learn the answers to event planners most burning GDPR-related questions, including what a tech vendor's responsibility is, what the roles of a processor and controller are, and how etouches has dealt with the new rules and regulations.
Finally, over the last few months we wrote about key GDPR facts planners need to know about on our blog. Here are a few quick reads (some with infographics!) to learn about the new regulation at a glance.
