One of the top reasons that we attend conferences, conventions and especially trade shows is to explore new products and ideas. Keeping up with industry trends, finding new desirable products and getting ahead of competition are keen motivators across all industries.
Events professionals are no exception and we are constantly challenged with keeping up with the best and freshest products that can bring events to life. This is not an easy task, particularly when you consider the multitude of industries that event professionals interact with and the wide variety of audiences each with specific preferences and expectations regarding the events that they participate in.
This can take the shape of the newest and most exclusive venue for a VIP reception, a new and exciting destination for incentive travel or a shiny new conference centre with the latest technology and facilities. It can also take the shape of a piece of technology that can help you plan and execute an event or add interaction or excitement for the attendees.
IMEX is one such trade show where attendees have come since 2003 to find new and exciting destinations and venues for meetings, events and incentive travel. Increasingly this is also the case for event technology as more and more companies chose to exhibit and show their products at IMEX.
Promoting a new product in not easy and IMEX has throughout its history worked on ways to highlight and promote newcomers. In previous editions we held an international Wild Card for destinations entering the international market. A German only version of initiative continues today where two new products are awarded a place on the Germany stand.
IMEX also has a long history in supporting event technology being the founding partner of the Meeting Support Institute, now Meeting Design Institute (MDI), which continues to be instrumental in working with event technology companies and introducing them to the wider events industry. The Meeting Design Hub is the home of MDI at IMEX and through this space MDI introduces the latest and most exciting event technology and meeting design tools to as well as educating IMEX attendees.
For the first time at IMEX we are offering a new way to explore fresh event technology products and concepts. After a very successful first edition at IMEX America, we have once again partnered with Event Manager Blog in search of the top Event Technology Startups. We opened the competition to all companies in this space who have been trading for less than two years and the response was outstanding. It was very tough to select the best 10, but in the end we created a shortlist. These 10 companies will now be pitching in the final taking place on Tuesday 19th May at 4:30pm on the Inspiration Hub (Stand G680).
During the final which we have named #IMEXpitch, the 10 shortlisted companies have 2 minutes to deliver a pitch to introduce their products, explain their concepts and make the case for event planners to use their new technology. There are a variety of products in the following categories
- Audience engagement and interaction (Lintelus Meeting, Panelsensor)
- Staff & Volunteer Management (InitLive)
- Social marketing software (InGo)
- Entertainment sourcing (Headliner)
- Democratic supplier platform (Eventopedia)
- Networking tool for professional events (Ribbler)
- Data capturing and media sharing (boabee)
- Sponsor Sourcing (SponsorMyEvent)
- Virtual venue (VenueTour)
We fully expect #IMEXpitch to be a fun and succinct way to learn about these new products. Attendees will also get the opportunity to meet the entrepreneurs behind these concepts and share their ideas. The concept is simple, fun and makes for great social media activity. The interaction is guaranteed and we hope that many event planners keen for new ideas and tools will join us.
